a blog about motherhood, coordinated chaos and my little piece of Heaven
Welcome
Welcome to my blog. In this space you’ll find little pieces of my Heaven right here on Earth-bits of all of the precious things in my life – my family, our favorite things, our in-house craziness, the realness of being a mom, my random thoughts, etc.
I pray you find some inspiration and/or motivation in this space and hope that it encourages you to reflect on the beautiful things you have going on in your life.
Life has been lifing this last month of school. I am an AP at my kids’ school, and y’all, I still waited until the last minute to get their teachers’ appreciation gifts together. I didn’t have much time, but I did the best I could with the materials I had at home, a grocery store …
We’ve finally got a good groove of chores around the Smith camp, and I couldn’t be happier, ‘cause Honey, I was this close (put your index finger and thumb finger as close as you possibly can without touching) to throwing up baskets of laundry in the middle of the floor and screaming, “Someone help me, …
It’s been a minute (8 months exactly) since I’ve made a post. Life has been so busy for the Smith clan. We had the winter storm in February. We dealt with some flooding from burst pipes. We’ve been juggling sports, a move, and a new dog. It’s been a lot, but we are here and …
Ben is the king of spontaneity. He is always down for a quick trip, a last minute concert or an impromptu dinner date. I love this, but at the same time, it drives me crazy. Around the house, he is also known as the rule breaker. Kids don’t have bedtime with Daddy nor do they have to brush their teeth before bed. “You say you didn’t have dinner, kids? No worries. Have this bag of candy, and don’t tell Mommy. ” That’s a famous Daddy line around here. It’s a daily battle to get him to understand the importance of structure for the kids, but this definitely doesn’t take away the fact that he is an amazing father and husband.
Mama Shalesha, 35: The Planner
First of all, I plan and have a plan for everything. You also need to know that I silently correct people’s grammar in my head. I have a ‘Type A’ personality. I turn everything into a competition even when the other person doesn’t know we’re competing. I could see a person headed to get in line at the grocery store. I nearly break my ankles to get ahead of them. I’m pitiful, I know. Let me add that I’m highly OCD and a perfectionist beyond perfection. I encourage my children to do for themselves, but when it’s not up to my standard, I go behind them and do it again. I’m working on letting it go like Elsa.
Quinn, 9: The Entertainer
Bencil is named after his father, well, his great grandfather, but he’s not the third. This is forever a battle that my husband will fight. Long story short- My husband’s grandfather has no middle name. My husband is named after his grandfather, but his parents gave him a middle name. My son has the exact same name as my husband (middle name included). We agreed (Ben says we didn’t) to put Bencil II on his birth certificate, but for some reason, my husband tells everyone that he’s the third. What say you? Take the poll below and weigh in on the argument. Anywho, Quinn loves sports, learning new things and being the center of attention. I should also add that the boy has some moves!

Demi, 7: The Firecracker
Ya’ll there are really not even enough words in the English language to describe Demi. She is truly one of a kind and has a personality out of this world. She is a leader and makes her own damn rules. She loves performing and spends most of her day asking me to help her start her own YouTube channel.
Max, 5: The Rebel
Max is the baby, and he knows it. It’s his way or no way. He enjoys torturing his siblings and getting away with murder. Since he’s the youngest, I let him do whatever the hell he wants ’cause I’m tired. If you have multiple kids, you know that last one just pretty much fends for themselves. I’d say he’s doing a pretty good job, too.
